Recently God has really been working on me as he guides me through life experiences. 10 years ago I picked up the guitar and have never looked back. During that time though I played bass guitar in a band, played acoustic and sang at coffee shops, managed a music store, played in numerous worship teams. In addition to the musical experiences I have had I have also worked alot in marketing, built tons of websites and handled social media campaigns. At times I have wondered why God had me walk through such a wide variety of experiences.
It did not become clear to me until a few months ago, that God wanted to teach me all of these things so that I could create this website and resources for worship leaders and guitarists. If I was just a musician I would have never lead worship at a church and understood leadership. If I never did marketing I would not have had the ability to get this resources into hands all over the world. God was “stacking” all of these things in my life so that I could better serve him. He is still “stacking” things for me.
Part of the clarity I received a few months ago came from listening to a sermon from Steven Furtick from Elevation Worship titled “Finding God’s Greater Purpose in Our Experiences”. In this sermon he brought up Lance Gatch who is the musical director for Elevation Worship. He proceeds to tell Lance’s story about how his mom was a piano teacher, and Lance eventually became a drummer and bassist. When Lance and his wife London arrived at Elevation there were no positions open for bassists and drummers and Lance was not good enough to play lead guitar. Lance decided that he was supposed to be on that stage and so he got extremely focused and learned lead guitar. Moving ahead Lance is now the music director of the entire worship experience at Elevation Church. He directs every instrument in the band and he is able to do this because he had all of those experiences in which God was stacking things.
So as you let this article soak in, make sure to check out the video above along with the first article in this series titled “Practice + God’s Anointing Makes Perfect for Lance Gatch“. I encourage you as you are looking into what God is doing in your life think of the things he is stacking. Think of the different paths he has taken you down so that you could be where you are today. As you continue on your journey make sure to be open to the paths he is leading you down.
And above all else. WORSHIP HIM in those seasons.

Thank you for starting this site and listening to God in your life. I have surely been blessed by what I’ve read on this site tonight (definitely this article and others). That video from Elevation was encouraging too!
Brad – thanks for the kind words and for checking out our site. God is doing some amazing things through us and we are just excited that we get to be a part of his plan! This article and video from Elevation and Lance Gatch has been one of the turning points/catalysts in my focus and how I approach serving on worship teams. If we approach things from how we can serve the church and our teams God can work in ways we never thought were possible! Blessings man!
