The Orange Tiny Terror and the Dual Terror are great amps for the money. They are lightweight and the tone on them is incredible. While Orange amps are not a favorite amongst worship guitarists we highly recommend giving these guys a try. The tone is very beefy and great for rhythm guitar. The amps themselves do not have a lot of headroom. The Tiny Terror at 7/15 watts obviously has less headroom than the Dual Terror at 15/30 watts. We have tested them both through an Orange PPC212 2×12″ speaker cabinet and loved what we heard.
The amp favors both humbuckers and single coils but is we think it is best paired with a Fender Thinline Tele with humbuckers. The stock tubes in these things while durable are somewhat flabby and lifeless. We recommend grabbing some Tung Sol’s or Mullard’s to spice up your life.
Pros
- Price: $599 Tiny Terror & $899 for Dual Terror
- Tone: We just love the tones from this amp, especially for chunky rhythm
- Weight & Portability: These things are extremely light and even come with a gigbag for increased portability
- Durability: These things are build like tanks. One of our guys runs one at church and it has been used every weekend for 3 years without ever needing to be re-tubed or serviced.
- The amp takes most pedals well
Cons
- There is no clean headroom.
- The amp takes most pedals well but darker pedals tend to get flabby and muddy in the mid to low end.
- With limited controls eq shaping can sometimes be a problem.
Should You Buy One?
YES! Just kidding. These amps are great for rhythm players. They are fat and chunky and the low end is a perfect foundation for those piercing leads coming from the lead guitarists AC30. If you are a rhythm player that loves deep rich tone and loves portability and durability this is the amp for you. If you are a lead guitarist who likes to cut through the mix we recommend sticking with a brighter amp like a Vox AC30 or Vox AC15.
